Neer dosa and shrimps sukka

This dish is originated from mangalore(coastal area in karnataka).


Ingredients to make Sukka powder

1 tsp cumin seeds

10 dry red chillies

2 tsp coriander seeds

1 tsp fennel seeds

1/2 tsp fenu greek seeds

1 inches cinnamon sticks

2 cloves

1 bay leaves

2 cardamom cloves

1 start seed

1 tsp poppy seeds


Ingredients to make the sukka

2 onions chopped

2 tomatoes chopped

100 gms grated coconut

100 gms shrimps

5 gms curry leaves

5 gms coriander/cilantro for decoration(optional)

2 green chillies sliced

5g tamrind soaked in water and make juice out of it

1 tsp salt


Ingredients to make neer dosa

1 cup rice soaked in water

3 cups water

1/2 grated coconut(optional)

1/4 tsp salt


Method

To make Sukka powder

Place a pan on the stove and add dry chillies, fry it and do not burn. Once done keep it aside.

Add all the seeds to the same pan and fry it and keep it aside

Add cinnamon sticks, bay leaves, cloves, cardamom and fry it and keep it aside.

Add everything to a mixer/blender jar. Grind it to fine powder. This will be the masala for the sukka.


To make Sukka

Use the same pan add a tsp of oil, add curry leaves, grated coconut. Fry unitl coconut turns golden brown. Transfer it to a plate and keep it aside.

Add a tsp of oil and add curry leaves, onions saute it until it becomes translucent.

Add shrimps, 1 tsp salt and 1/2 tsp tumeric powder, 2 sliced green chilly, tomatoes and mix well. Cover and cook for 5 to 8 minutes on medium flame.

While its half cooked add 1 and 1/2 tsp of sukka powder, a cup of water, tamrind juice. Mix well and cooked it covered for next 10 minutes. Cook it until its the water is soaked to become thick and dry or curry based as per your preference.

Add the roasted coconut to it and mix it well. Cook for another 2 to 3 minutes. Garnish it with coriander leaves and serve it ready.


To make Neer dosa

Soak the rice for an hour.

Drain out the rice from soaked water and add rice to the blending jar. Add grated coconut if you like.

Grind it in a mixer/blender by adding 3 cups of water to a fine liquid. It will look like thick milk.

Note: The measurement for neer dosa will be 1:3 rice and water accordingly.

Transfer to a pot, add pinch of salt and mix it well.

On the stove, place the pan/tawa, let it become hot enough to make the dosa. Make the dosa and cover the lid to cook. You do not need to flip the dosa. Fold it and place it on the serving plate and enjoy.
