Rava Idli is a quick way to make a variation of idli using rava or semolina. The best part about this idli is that it can turn out more fluffy and you can add your seasoning to the batter to make it more tasty.

It goes well with coconut chutney, veg kurma, tomato chutney etc. For my rava idlis I made vegetable kurma.

Ingredients (10 idlis)

1 cup rava or semolina

3/4th cup yoghurt

1 tsp baking soda

3/4th tsp salt

1/2 cup grated carrots (optional)

coriander(optional)

For seasoning

1/4th tsp whole mustard

1 tsp split chick peas

1 tsp vegetable oil

Method

  1. To a bowl, add semolina, baking soda, salt and mix it well.

  2. Add yoghurt, coriander and grated carrots and mix it well. The consistency of the batter should be thick.

  3. Optional seasoning: On a seasoning pan on the stove in medium flame add vegetable oil, split chick peas and whole mustard. Once the mustard starts cracking remove the pan from the stove and add the seasoned spices to the batter and give it a good mix.

  4. Close a lid to the batter for atleast 20 minutes before you make idlis.

  5. Add the batter to the idli maker and add water the idli maker pot. Cook it for 10 minutes on medium-to-high flame.

  6. Check by using a tooth pick and remove it to cool down. Serve to a plate and enjoy.
