South Indian style Red chutney

The three ingredients which blended together turns out to be one of the best dips for the south Indian breakfast. Its the spicy/hot red chutney or the tomato chutney which goes well with dosa, idli, bajji, pakora etc.


Ingredients for red chutney(Serving: 2)

2 chopped tomatoes

1 chopped onion

6 dried red chilli

1 spoon vegetable oil

few curry leaves

10 gms split chickpeas

5 gms mustard seeds

1 tsp salt

Method for making red chutney

  1. Blend 2 chopped tomatoes, 1 onion, 6 dried red chilli and salt.

  2. To a pot, add vegetable oil, curry leaves, split chickpeas, mustard seeds. Add the blended paste to the pot and let it cook until the raw smell of tomatoes/onions are gone. It would take approximately 8 to 10 minutes.
