Broccoli Tots

We somehow want to make the healthy ingredients more interesting so we could consume it more than junk food. Broccoli tots is one of them. Easy and quick snack to make with broccoli.


Course: Snacks

Serving: 25 pieces

Preparation time: 15 minutes

Cook time: 4 minutes

Bake time: 20 to 25 minutes

Total time: 45 minutes


Ingredients

1 full broccoli head

50 gms shredded mozzarella (optional)

50 gms breadcrumbs or fried onions

1 egg beaten

1 tsp salt

1 tsp black pepper powder

2 cloves garlic cut into tiny pieces

30 gms scallions(Spring onions)

3 tsp chilli sauce

1/2 tsp paprika powder


Method

  1. Take the broccoli head and cut into pieces leaving the stem part.

  2. Cook it with water and a pinch of salt for 4 minutes

  3. Strain the water from cooked broccoli and mince it into fine pieces using a knife.

4. Transfer the shredded broccoli to a mixing bowl, then add mozzarella, diced garlic, scallions, salt, paprika, breadcrumbs, chilli sauce and beaten egg. Mix it well.

5. On the baking tray, place parchment paper and start making tots like shape using the mix we made as shown in the below figure.

6. Preheat the oven at 200 degree celsius or 392 Fahrenheit and place the baking tray in the oven for 20 minutes. After 10 minutes, flip the tots to cook on the other side.

7. (Optional step if you do not want to bake), on a shallow frying pan on the stove in high heat, add 4 to 5 tsp vegetable oil and shallow the tots for 3 minutes each side and transfer to a plate. Use a paper towel, pat dry the broccoli tots if its oily.

8. Enjoy the broccoli tots with sauce or mayonnaise!
